MARILYN ANONA writes: Whether we admit it or not, judging people based on appearance is most times an unconscious thing!

Appearance can mislead you greatly. It takes time to sort out who is actually a good person with a strong character and who is conniving and manipulative but by using a veneer of charm and superficial physical attraction, takes advantage of others.

A big, tough and strong man, who has a rough look, can be judged as scary. While on the contrary, he can have a tender heart and a sweet soul.

Moreover, history shows many horrible crimes are carried out by people who are not considered “dangerous” simply because of their innocent and sophisticated look.

Using our universities as an example, most of the cult guys were handsome and innocent looking but you can’t even begin to imagine the sort of ugly things they do ranging from theft to rape. Now this is in the aspect of beauty and ugliness which I personally believe people should not be judged with.

But believe it or not, JUDGING IS PART OF LIFE I wouldn’t say it is “wrong” to judge people based on appearances. Judging appearances is a major element of human life (animals too).

Because of judgments, we are able to determine what types of friend circles will make us happiest and what kind of mates we wish to select to be with for the rest of our lives. But maybe more importantly, judging by appearances helps protect us from dangerous situations.

Would you not judge a menacing looking figure on a dark road just because it’s “not nice” to judge? Or will you see a man with lots of tattoo, a bottle of jack daniel with a wrap of indian hemp playing loud music from his car while smoking and think of him the same way you would think of a reverend father? Will you see a mature woman, half nude, with red hair, tattoos etc on the road and regard her as an angel?

Whether we admit it or not, judging people based on appearance is most times an unconscious thing! Its ok to Judge…
No! it is not wrong to judge people based on their physical appearance. If you are driving through an unfamiliar area late in the evening and notice a group of males with gang symbols, multiple piercing and their underwear sticking up above their waistbands standing around on a street corner, you are going to make an instant judgment based on their appearance, and you are going to keep driving without stopping to ask directions. There are times when judging someone by their physical appearance can literally save your life.

If you are an angel, why should you be dressed up like the devil and expect people to see the angel in you…

If you are a Doctor, will you get patients dressing or looking like a road side mechanic?

While we go on talking about “NOT JUDGING A BOOK BY ITS COVER” let’s not forget that we are addressed the way we are dressed. In the aspect of Ugliness and beauty, I can’t judge anyone. But your dressing speaks a lot about you and might not avail you the chance to prove that indeed you are an angel… And note that ATTRACTION is based mainly on physical appearance and first impressions so we judge unconsciously.

We have all been judged and we have all judged. Judgment will never stop, so if you are an angel, don’t appear like a devil because there may not be an avenue for you to prove yourself… No one sees a loving heart, a kind soul through the devil.

MARILYN ANONA writes: Farting is often something laughed about but excessive flatulence can be embarrassing and can make you feel uncomfortable around others.

You denied it, you blamed it on the guy/girl sitting next to you, you even claimed it was your grandma when she wasn’t around to defend herself. Most of the time, it smells bad and even sounds funny.

Yesterday I was with a friend of mine, and for almost 12hours we spent together she was farting all the way. It wasn’t funny as she was constantly spoiling the air and laughing about it. Yes! I have nothing against farting because I know its a natural thing for one to fart, but farting excessively I mean continuously was a little bit disturbing.

Farting is often something laughed about but excessive flatulence can be embarrassing and can make you feel uncomfortable around others. However, it can usually be controlled with changes to your diet and lifestyle.

Flatulence, also known as “farting” or “passing wind”, is the passing of gas from the digestive system out of the back passage. When you swallow food, water or saliva, you also swallow small amounts of air, which collects in the digestive system. Gases can also build up when you digest food.

The body needs to get rid of the build-up by farting (flatulence) or burping (belching).Sometimes, you may not notice you have passed wind because most of the gases are odorless and are often released in small quantities. Flatulence usually only has a bad smell if it contains gases that smell, such as sulphur. However, it is important to remember that it is normal for the gas you pass to sometimes smell a bit.

Excessive flatulence can be caused by swallowing more air than usual or eating food that is difficult to digest. It can also be due to an underlying health problem which affects the digestive system, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Foods that cause flatulence are generally those high in certain polysaccharides, particularly oligosaccharides, such as inulin.

Inulin belongs to a class of dietary fibers known as fructans. Examples include:

Dairy products

Sweet potatoes

Yeast (in baked products, such as bread)

Excessive flatulence can usually be controlled by making changes to your diet and lifestyle, such as:

1. Avoiding foods known to cause flatulence

2. Eating smaller and more frequent meals

3. Eating and drinking slowly

4. Exercising regularly

These are some ways to control farting. Please try and help yourself and also help us. Don’t eat horrible things, dress to kill and then come out to start messing up the air.

I hope I have helped by writing down these. The topic may be funny to some people, but believe me farting in a public place is not a good thing!
Please, don’t go about spoiling the air.

MARILYN ANONA writes: Your job has a deeper connection to your entire life than most of us think.

From daily interaction, personal experience and observation over a period of time, I have come to realize that a lot of people do not like their jobs and are just doing it because that is what they have at the moment and the high rate of unemployment has only made this worse.

I worked with a financial institution and throughout the time I spent with them, I was surrounded by colleagues who were always nagging and complaining of how much they loathe their present job and searching for a new one. And this is not peculiar to just my former colleagues, in fact most of us pick up jobs often saying “let me be managing this one” knowing full well that, that is not what we want to do!

Why do so many people hate their jobs? There are many reasons why people hate their jobs?

Let me quickly go straight to the points…

*** If its a job you know within you that you do not like at all but are forced by circumstances to take, you will never like the job. You hate the job even before picking it up and as a matter of fact you can never do well with it. How do you expect to be happy or do well as a marketer when you hate the whole idea of marketing such that you have developed a phobia for it. So for some people, the hatred for the job was on even before they picked the said job. It will take the special grace of GOD for you eventually start tolerating the job. Yes tolerating because love is love, it doesn’t grow we just become used to the thing and adapt or tolerate.

*** Another good reason why people may hate their jobs is when an employee stays in a particular level too long. And most times these employees keep their heads down nd don’t complain loudly due to unemployment crisis. They are afraid to ask questions, they are afraid to speak up and they are even more afraid to move. You have an instance where people are employed as graduate trainees for example to be confirmed as proper staff of the company or organization after six months but most times companies don’t keep to their words and have these employees work for more than a year without confirmation. Naturally, anyone in these shoe will not be comfortable. You don’t know your fate, you feel used and you don’t have faith in the organization and hatred for that sets in.

*** Again, when an employee works longer hours beyond the usual hours and isn’t rewarded properly, he or she would feel used and if this lingers on, hatred for the job is inevitable except of course it was passion that took the person to that job, and if its passion, he or she will volunteer to work longer hours himself. But I am talking of a case where passion is no where around.

*** When work/life balance is heading in the wrong direction, it affects the love for our jobs. Electronic devices and mobile technology have made it hard to turn work off. Emails, texts, action items and reports come flowing in through smart phones, laptops and tablets all hours of the day and night and even on weekends.
Gosh! People are exhausted and unable to recharge, rest, reboot and enjoy time with their families. This leads to resentment for the job.

*** Negative employer/employee relationships can make us also hate our jobs. Negative relationships can range from taking credit for subordinate’s work, under-appreciation, being difficult, bullying, sexual harassment, gossiping and rivalry in the workplace, work place politics and more. Bosses come in all shapes and sizes and if you don’t have a good relationship with them, you start hating your job!

*** When you know what you want to do with your life, when you know your purpose, when you have discovered yourself and your present job has an unclear career path, you start to hate your job. When an employee doesn’t see how they can grow their skills/experiences and advance, when there is no training and development leading directly to advancement, a person who has a dream, ambition and goal in life will not be comfortable with such a job and will start hating it.

Now the big question is, who should we blame here? We may choose to blame the government for unemployment crisis, or blame the companies but remember its all about you! Its your job… Its your life… So let’s focus on you and how to remedy this situation.

Now, If you find yourself hating your job, you need to take the time to stop and think about why. Is it the money? Is it the people? Is it the work or the hours?

Ok, you know what the problem is! So decide if you are going to do something about it. Or not. But make that decision.

If your answer is, “No, I will stay here,” then stop complaining.

If your answer is, “Yes, I want to get another job ” then build a plan and execute it!

At this point, set a goal! This is very important because it makes you not to go for just anything. Articulate what it is you will look for, being very clear and specific. Identify the function, industry, company type, location, salary minimum, and much more.

The funny thing is, after thorough thinking, you may decide to simply be on your own… Yes! Become self employed either by making use of your GOD given talent or going to acquire a skill.

This is the most important part. Put this plans into action. It is very important that you love your job. When you hate your job, everything is a task because there is no passion. You feel unfulfilled and depressed.

Having a career or a job is not all about the money or salary. Your job has a deeper connection to your entire life than most of us think. When you are doing a job you love, a job you are passionate about, your life is more significant, satisfying and complete.

When you are doing a job you love, whether you make money today or not, you have the zeal to move on. Nothing dampens your spirit.

I will like to stop here today. Please enjoy your holiday, and get ready for work tomorrow.

MARILYN ANONA writes: It doesn’t matter if you are an identical twin or the thing called reincarnation truly occurs, what I know is, there will never be another you.

Marilyn Anona

Marilyn Anona

I hate my self so much… I am so frustrated… No one loves me… I don’t have a serious date… These were the words she was saying on the phone!

Hmmm! I don’t love myself, I am frustrated… Such heavy words! Very heavy negative words!

Well, for me I love myself so very much and that’s why I am able to love others. That’s why I am content even when I have nothing. That’s why frustration can’t be associated with me. That’s why I dust my self up and try again after each failure.

I love myself so much and that’s why I am so confident. That’s why I know my flaws and accept them. That’s why I don’t torture myself over things I can’t change. That’s why I consider being left handed as a blessing.

Loving yourself is very important, it helps you and it makes you appreciate life and people the more.

Most times, people call loving your self “self love”…
But I choose to stick with “loving yourself” because I don’t want anyone mistaking it for Narcissism…

Like I was saying, loving yourself means you have great confidence and a healthy level of self esteem. It means you love the fact that you are one of the creatures created by GOD and not just that, you are so blessed to be human.

So there are a thousand and one reasons for you Amaka, Taiwo, Amina to love yourself and make the best use of this time you have on earth.

I will outline some of the reasons why you should love you.

1. There is going to be just one you. And it means you are very special. It doesn’t matter if you are an identical twin or the thing called reincarnation truly occurs, what I know is, there will never be another you. For that reason, you should fully love this unique being called you. I am yet to hear of another Oprah Winfrey.
Don’t get me wrong! Someone else may go by that same name but it doesn’t mean she is the same Oprah that we know. And the same is applicable to you and I. You are unique so you should love you.

2. If you do not love yourself, it reflects in all you do. Your attitude, your dressing, the way you talk, your hygiene etc.
And let me tell you… If you don’t love yourself, people will not be attracted to you and they will not love for. Nobody can ever love you more than you love you. So for others to love you, you must love you.
Stop being too hard on yourself. You may not be Albert Einstein, Chimamanda Adichie, Mark Zuckerberg etc but you are not less important. Love yourself for who you are and others will love and appreciate you for who you are.

3. If you don’t love yourself, its hard to believe in yourself. What you believe in is often what you love. So if you don’t love yourself, it means you don’t believe in yourself and your ability. And if this is the case, how do you achieve success in life? You see how dangerous it is for you not to love you?

4. Ok, some say they do not love themselves because people judge them due to one flaw or the other… Does it make your situation better? I mean hating yourself?
That person who judges you has more flaws than you so why let their judgment hit you so hard that you hate yourself to the point that you are almost a living dead! Na wah for you o.

5. You must love yourself because that is the first step to achieving success. Yes! You just asked how?
Well like I said before, loving yourself makes you confident and there is nothing you can’t achieve once you have confidence.
Not loving yourself makes you lose a lot of thing. You have this inferiority complex that makes you hide when you should come out. You feel ugly, you can’t talk or do anything in front of others because you think you are going to be teased and taunted.
My dear, please you need to start loving yourself.

These are just few reasons why you should love yourself. Nobody will fill that void for you. That emptiness in your heart can only be filled by you.
But what reason do you have for hating yourself?
Maybe you will say:
I am jobless, I am unemployed, I am fat, I am ugly, I am short, I am not intelligent, I am not married, I am never lucky etc…

Hey hey pause sweetie, the list is getting so overwhelming!
Now let me ask you, how does hating yourself and not taking care of yourself solve these problems you listed?
For me, it compounds them and draws you closer to your grave.

Love yourself no matter what you may be passing through, no matter what you may have experienced etc, it gives you the strength to go on and see more beauty in life.

Look out for the things to be grateful for and not always dwell on all the woes you have encountered in life.

When you love yourself, you attract positive things into your life.

Loving your self doesn’t mean selfishness and the only way to truly appreciate success when it comes is loving yourself now that you have nothing.

Start today to appreicate you.

Enjoy your holidays.
