Marilyn Anona writes… High heeled shoes make women feel powerful, classy and above all make the legs look longer and more defined.

Wow! Bola this dress is so lovely! another nice one from “Marks and Spencer” but why spoil it by wearing a flats especially on a monday morning? Listen Bola dear, if you were a pregnant woman I would not have complained but for GOD’s sakes, you just degraded this whole ensemble by putting on flats. You just made the whole outfit appear too casual and plain. ImageThese were the words I heard while I was eavesdropping on my boss talking to my colleague. Now what is it about heels? What is the difference between high heels and flats? What happens to one’s appearance as regards heels? I know full well that we dress according to occasions and outfits. But on the whole, what does putting on a high heeled shoe (stiletto) do to a woman’s appearance? Personally, I know that a high heeled shoe can instantly transform an ordinary appearance and make you appear more serious, formal and of course elegant. Stiletto shoes give an elegant, sexy and sophisticated edge to an outfit. High heeled shoes make women feel powerful, classy and above all make the legs look longer and more defined. High heeled shoes exude femininity in that the pelvis become tilted when standing or walking emphasizing female curves. Also the sound of the heels while the woman is walking attracts attention to the woman. Again, since women should walk differently from men, high heels may help enhance the paImagerticularly feminine aspects of gait. What high heeled shoes do is make women walk even more like women. Except you are a student in a typical Nigerian University, where you have to run to and fro struggling for a space to sit during lectures, a sick or pregnant woman, in the market, amusement park, picnic etc, women should wear high heeled shoes once in a while especially if you are a working class lady or in an event such as a wedding. We should not always wear flats in places where we are supposed to look corporate, formal or well dressed. Generally, high heeled shoes make women very attractive because in addition to making women taller, high heels force the back to arch, pushing the bosom forward and the buttocks rear ward, thus accentuating the female form. I know that putting on high heeled shoes are quiet tasking but they worth every pain, we are women and we love to be the centre of attraction. We don’t love to always have that boyish gait that flats give to us. Men like an exaggerated female figure and beautiful feminine gait. Being tall is not a reason not to rock them. Wearing flats at very formal events or parties etc can make you appear clumsy. Let’s throw it open, what do you think about women and high heels? Be Enlightened! Be Inspired!! Be Motivated!!!                                                 Image

  1. Nice one marylyn, they can be very tasking as aforementioned but it is only a heel that has the power to transform an ordinary dress to extraordinary…….I wish I can do heels all the time….lol

    • Yes Uche, heels give a woman the carriage and gait that suit her. Makes her classy, and makes an ordinary outfit look so extraordinary. At times when you are at a loss on what to put on, just put on a simple gown and a high heeled shoe and look at your self in the mirror. High heeled shoes are classy.

    • Thanks Ikenna, Of course, to be elegant, classy and appear corporate, high heeled shoes are a huge part of it except in occasions where they are not needed to avoid being a fashion victim. But believe me, a lady, an urban lady, a sophisticated lady should have some good high heeled shoes in her wardrobe. Thanks for being part of http://www.poshmarilyn.wordpress.com.

  2. A̶̲̥̅♏ still saying dat heels don’t make anybody look classy or wateva U̶̲̥̅̊ fink or call it.wearing heels only increases de carriage U̶̲̥̅̊ give urself.so one shld nt make look as if its de oda of da day.eg picture a mad woman on heels #huh#

    • Nice contribution Chioma, in life, there is a standard for everything! Ever wondered why two people will wear the same type of clothes all the time yet one is said to be a better dresser than the other. High heeled shoes is the difference. It transforms an outfit instantly and gives you a very feminine gait. There is no way you can begin to compare flats to high heeled shoes. If the occasion is a very casual one like going to the market, park, to catch a bus etc, then good and fine. Using a mad woman on heels is a bad instance and I suggest you give us a better example and carefully tell us what your whole point is. You might also need to watch tyler Perry’s Temptation where Kim Kardashian was talking to her colleague about how she should dress to work. Performance is very good, Appearance matters a lot too. High heeled shoes make a woman attractive, elegant and classy. How many women have you seen on the red carpet wearing flats? How many top executives do you see wearing flats?

  3. Well, you have spoken. The question does not beg an answer because you already enlightened anyone who entirely has a different opinion. Just like me.
Yeh, you want my opinion…. Women complain a lot about these things they wear. High heels they call it. Well maybe the complaints is just for attention but then if this shoes were advantagious as you aforementioned, then they can STHU….and bear the pain that comes with it.

In the end, for men like me, class is fine, beauty if good, the curves and all contours are fine. The works. Any man would go for such. Even me too, to an extent, but then, in the end, if and when I look beyond the lies and see what lies underneath, and there are no morals, chracter and intellect and willingness to learn…..just to mention a few, then in all.. She’ll just be a trend only and will not end up in my home….or in the home of any other man with such thought forms as mine.

    There…you have me comment.

  4. High heal shoes make women look smart & sexy, you have to b comfortable while wearing it …but it also cums with pain. You can’t expect womon going to the markert to wear heals…..

  5. Women’s fashion is one very interesting area for me as I’m always learning something new. I like a very well dressed woman, because like thay say in my place “anya ga eli tupu onu eli e” meaning the eyes gets fed before the mouth. So, as much as I place good morals and good charcter above looks, I must be attracted by physical appearance before I get to know who the woman is (@chioma take note) . I agree with PoshMarilyn that heels does some magic to a hitherto ordinary appearance. I have witnessed that transformation a few times.
In addition to making her look very elegant and classy, heels also help any woman measure up to the height of her man if he’s taller..lol.
    Nice post PoshMarilyn.

  6. @Aim.hey bro you are diversifying.@Ik Obasi. You got that one right.lol.I think high heel shoes gives a woman the confidence, courage and power, especially if she is 5:6,it also helps to straightens her posture. This article got me thinking of Carrie’s character in the TV series “Sex and the City”.Nice one Ms.Posh, always creative.Like Diane MarieChild once said”A woman is the full circle, within her is the power to create, nurture and transform”Every woman should endeavour to be enlightened in the latest fashion tip.Two thumbs up Oma.

  7. I think and know you’re right Marylin, I personally love heels and could wear it anytime and anywhere if possible so I’m 100% with you dear, flats are classy buh not all or most of the time

  8. On the contrary, I’ve been told by many to stop wearing heels coz am tall and wearing heels gives me an intimidating appearance (I don’t listen to that anyways).

Why wear what you ain’t comfortable in just b/c every other person does? If it’s that comfortable, why do most ladies have ‘flats’ in their handbags? This to easily switch over when the leg gets strained. For me wearing heels, ‘six inches’ is ideal if worn to the right occasion. Your kind of job should also determine the kind of heels you wear daily, if your job is the type that keeps you on your toes all day (like marketers), then I advice you go easy on the heels, instead of going for ‘six inches’, go for low/moderate heels…the beauty of heel is, no matter how low it is, as long is its not flat, you get same result in your walking steps and whatever. I pity ladies that wear heels and then walk like their leg aches, it rubbishes the aim.
Do what you’re comfortable in, if you feel cool wearing ‘six inches’ daily, then go ahead, if you don’t, then dont, it doesn’t change anything, you can still look good, elegant, classy and posh.

As for me, I wear very moderate heels b/c that’s what am comfortable in.

Heels has it advantages and disadvantages, but I don’t think it’s really worth the pain.
