Sometimes, I get so worried about how most people dress. A lady dressed as though she is going for a night party in the afternoon. Seeing some ladies wearing almost bikini to the movies. Ladies putting on yoga tights with a small top to church. Some even wear summer dresses to work. A lady putting on stiletto heels in the motor park… How shameful! Some people have simply failed to identify common recognized boundaries of style. This group of people who do not know what to wear at the right time and at the right place are called FASHION VICTIMS. According to Versace, “When a woman alters her look too much from season to season, she becomes a fashion victim. So who is a fashion victim? 1. A person who crosses the boundaries of fashion and style, like taking a fad too far, or wearing too many trends at once and therefore taking the look from the glamourous to the ridiculous. It is also a person who tries to draw admiration through the designer brands (or a shameless copy of them), wearing labels regardless of fit or personal style and becoming a “walking billboard”! 2. Highly insecure people who seek solace in looking exactly the same as other people probably celebrities or socialites. 3. A fashion victim is someone who wears clothes that are not right at the right time. The clothes do not match each other in style or colour. They do not fit the person correctly. Sometimes the clothing is designer, other times it can be from the Salvation army. The key links between fashion victims is that they do not look good. In all, a fashion victim is simply someone who cannot dress even if their life depended on it and they try too hard. They do not match. They do not know what is in style. They cannot co-ordinate anything. Simply put they are a hot mess. Let me set it straight a fashion victim is simply someone who cannot dress. In order to avoid becoming a fashion victim, you must learn to develop your own sense of style, and you must also accept that some clothes look good on you while others do not. Most importantly you should be able to know what and what to wear at the right time and place. You should also not wear too many things at a time making you look too busy. Let’s all learn to dress better and not make mockery of ourselves by the way we dress. When going to church, please wear the right clothes. When going to the airport or motor parks, please dress appropriately and not as if you are going for a red carpet event. Genevieve Nnaji and Uti Nwachukwu are two Nigerian celebrities who dress well and right and should be emulated… Be Enlightened! Be Inspired!! Be Motivated!!!
